Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

  • Description

    Sew the Siahra dress for a total summertime staple. This midi-length dress has an empire waist, adjustable straps, and a clever casing creates a gathered neckline. The front is finished with a facing and the underarms and back neckline are finished with single fold bias tape.

  • Fabric & Supplies

    Light to medium weight woven fabrics such as linen, chambray, batiste, lawn, voile, rayon challis, cupro, and Tencel.

    All-purpose polyester  sewing thread, sewing machine needle, two 1/2" (12 mm) bra slides, two 1/2" (12 mm) bra rings, 1 3/8 yards (1.2 meters) of 1/2" (12 mm) single fold bias tape, and a small safety pin.

    Refer to size chart for amount of fabric needed for your size.

  • Sizing & Fit

    Maya is wearing a size 2 Siahra dress with 3/4” added to the bust, 1 1/2” added to the width of the upper top edge, 7/8” added to the top length, and 5 1/2” added to the skirt length. Her measurements are 33 1/2”, 26”, 37” and she is 5’ 10”.

    Our Misses patterns are drafted for a C cup and our Curvy patterns are drafted for DD. Both are drafted for a height of 5'8" (172 cm).
